New Years Resolutions and College Students

New Year's  has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year.

It's a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes.

Naomi Rockler-Gladen @ Suite 101 offered these realistic New Years Resolution suggestions for college students ...

  • Spend a little less time watching TV.
  • Spend a little less time on MySpace or Facebook.
  • Call your mom more often.
  • Help a friend with homework when needed.
  • Recycle.
  • Try to improve your attention span in class.
  • Attend class more often.
  • Volunteer for twenty hours a semester at a local charity.
  •

  • Stop comparing yourself to other students who you think are smarter or more attractive.
  • Cut your "fun" spending by 25 percent.
  • Take a class that pushes your comfort zone.
  • If an election is coming, educate yourself about the candidates and the issues.
  • Thank your parents. Did your parents help pay for your college education, or help you in some other way. Thank them. Thank them often.
  • Thank your teachers. Go to the professors who made a difference in your life and let them know. They will appreciate this more than anything else you could do for them. Sending thank you cards is nice because they can be saved as mementos.

  •
You're much more likely to keep resolutions if they are realistic and attainable.
Pick a few relatively easy things that will make life better for you and those around you.
